Goldman Said $4,000. China Bought 20 Tonnes. The Pause Is Almost Over.
Dear investor.
Gold at $4,412 today. Silver at $67.53. The two most significant data points of this week did not come from inflation reports or Fed speeches. They came from Goldman Sachs and Beijing.
Goldman Sachs' Global Head of Metals Trading told clients this week that gold's retreat from January's record high of $5,589 is not a cycle top. It is an elongated pause. His exact words: the bull trend will resume. His recommended action for clients: scale into long positions near $4,000, where sovereign and institutional buying provides a solid floor. Goldman Sachs Research confirmed its year-end target of $4,900, citing central bank accumulation that has doubled to 1,000 to 1,100 tonnes annually since 2022.
The same day, China's central bank confirmed it purchased 20.2 tonnes of gold in August. That is the largest single monthly acquisition since 2023. It is also the 22nd consecutive month of purchases. China did not pause when Warsh spoke at Jackson Hole. It did not pause when September rate hike odds reached 60%. It bought more.

Société Générale confirmed this week that a synchronized build-up of physical, futures and options exposure is forming in gold, the kind of structure that precedes sustained directional moves. Large asset managers are actively rebuilding positions. The Hormuz conflict is back with Brent above $100, adding a geopolitical dimension to an argument that was already structural.
Silver at $67.53 leading today's move with +2.89% is not a coincidence. When institutional money rebuilds gold positions and geopolitical risk rises simultaneously, silver compresses the ratio and moves faster. The sixth consecutive annual supply deficit and growing industrial demand from AI infrastructure and advanced manufacturing provide the structural floor.
Goldman Sachs told clients where the floor is. Chinal confirmed it with 20 tonnes. The pause that has lasted seven months is almost over.
